It’s that time of year again and though I wasn’t feeling well that day I decided to head out with my camera anyway. I’m glad I did because asides form all the cool cars there was a great Hawaiian luau style show in front of San Bernardino’s newly formed restaurant called Nice Bunz & G’s. Needless to say I spent an amount of time shooting the event and the whole set form that night can be found here.
Please feel free to use any images from the set. Just click on the “All Sizes” tab right above the image and select the size you would like.
As an event photographer capturing those once in a lifetime moments is part of what I cherish most and in this case my very own Grandmother had her 100th birthday. The event was held at a local American Legion Hall in Corona, Calif. and it was well attended by members of the family both young and old. What I remember most about Vicenta is no matter where we were in time or place, she was always the hub of family activity. Her home would be packed shoulder to shoulder with family that would gather for special events or just because! Being Latinos, we never needed any more of a reason to gather than to just spend time together having fun and partying! To this day her mind is sharp and clear and she can recall things that happened many, many years ago…….

I thought I would post an image every now and then that I passed up because it was either over or under exposed. In this case the image was so dark you couldn’t see much but I knew when I shot this I had captured Em in her element as she is a child of the woods after all and she is right at home in this environment. Thank god for shooting RAW because as soon as I bumped the exposure on this I knew exactly what I was going to do to bring this to life. After a conversion I played with levels and curves for a bit and I’m quite happy with the feel of this portrait.
Sometimes it pays to go through the archives!
I often shoot my kids when they are out and about playing, doing their thing and one of the cool things about having a 200MM lens is that you get to shoot without them really knowing that they are being shot. Every now and then you capture a moment that deserves to be framed and hung on the wall, derived entirely of a candid moment. Images like this make me want to carry my camera with me everywhere I go…….
I’m still post processing images from Gothla and I’m happy to say that four new sets have been added from the show, set # nineteen, twenty, twenty one and twenty two. Check out one of my favorite troupes from the event.
